Speculation fills after PARTYNEXTDOOR leaves fans in a rumble about his next move. The artist took to Twitter, stating “1 more album left then ima tell y’all what it’s like”.
The Canadian R&B maverick is signed to the coveted OVO Sound label, which puts into question the artists relationship with Drake, though there is no real or clear indication that this is the case. There are rumours floating around fan circles suggesting he may leave the label after his contract expires, but the inclusion of a Drake feature on Loyal, from the 2020 album Partymobile would suggest otherwise.
Other signs point to his general disillusion with the music industry at large, being snubbed at award shows, and critics giving rather average reviews of his recent discography. PARTYNEXTDOOR took to social media to silence his critics and take a dig at the industry, specifically those at the BET Awards, “When did black entertainment television get so complex and forget Partynextdoor is the rnb artist of our generation”.
All of this begs the question, what happens now? PND dropped his EP PARTYPACK last month in October, which included other heavyweights such as the late Nipsey Hussle and Quavo, giving the suggestion that PND is far from bowing out of the scene any time soon.
PND could be playing us all, hyping up anticipation for his next album to make sure it is a surefire Number 1 on the Billboard 200, a feat he has narrowly missed twice, with his 2016 hit album PartyNextDoor3 achieving the number 3 position, and 2020 album Partymobile making it to number 8.
Whatever happens, we hope that this frustration and fired-up attitude gets PARTYNEXTDOOR motivated to making his best music yet, as the newly released EP and the Partymobile albums were far too hot for an artist on his decline.
