Martyre (Label) – Jewellery Review → Timeless & Minimal, These Boys Are On To Something

Words by Zakriya Mohammed (University College London)
Martyre is a jewellery and accessories brand created by Anwar Hadid and Yoni Laham. They have in their catalogue some of the most timeless pieces available on the market today. The brand is clean and modern. Like the creators, the jewellery and accessories boast creativity and originality at the forefront. A glance at their branding will reveal a sleek, monochrome, vogue-like quality as we see stars such as Zayn Malik and of course, the co-creator Anwar Hadid modelling the fine jewellery pieces. All of this put together gives off a feel of luxury, whilst not too opulent to deter even the most modern minimalist.
At Martyre, jewellery isn’t just pieces of molded metal for people to wear, it has added messaging and meaning. Martyre understand that currently “fast fashion and consumerism take the meaning and intention away from creation”, thus the pieces they create have a clear “emphasis on substance and symbolism”. This is integral to the brand, and really strips jewellery and fashion back to its bare bones. Simply, they create timeless pieces crafted by skilled artisans for consumers to enjoy forever.

With Yoni Laham at the forefront of Martyre, there was always going to be copious amounts of creative vision and direction, which is extremely evident in all their pieces. The Angelo Ring, Oslan Earrings and Avery Bracelet are all pieces from the Martyre range which show that a real skilled craft went into the design and creation of them. It is fair to say that all the products boast unique intricacies which add extra flair to any outfit you wish to dress up with accessories and jewellery.
The recent campaign produced by Martyre as shown on their website and other brand pages is just another facet of the Martyre brand, as it oozes the firm modern sleekness of the brand. Shot by the talented Kevin Ohana, the campaign features models Georgia Fowler, Abdulaye Niang and of course co-owner Anwar Hadid. The fully monochrome campaign is very nice on the eye and boasts a series of clean, classy photographs which show us all the glory of Martyre’s products. As well as reaffirming the high fashion element of the accessory boutique, the well-produced campaign remind us of the raw creative talent associated with the brand.

It is not often that newer brands on the fashion scene are able to boast such an opulent and regal feel in their branding, whilst ringing true on both. Established in 2018, Martyre has come to the scene with a radical vision on taking on the fast fashion faithful with the aim of converting people back to falling in love with the craftsmanship and message behind jewellery and accessories. With young creatives at the centre of Martyre, namely co-founders Anwar Hadid and Yoni Laham, the brand takes aim at an often uncatered market in the high-fashion world, the younger more swanky generation who are beginning to see value in craft, and willing to swap low-priced mass-produced goods for products and accessories that have a message and skilled artisans behind them.
